Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), has cautioned that the recent confrontation involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, and a uniformed military officer poses a grave danger to Nigeria’s national security and institutional discipline.
In a statement published on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Buratai described Wike’s public verbal attack on the officer as “an act of profound indiscipline that strikes at the core of the nation’s command and control structure.”
According to the former Army chief, such conduct undermines the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, erodes the morale of personnel across the armed forces, and weakens the discipline upon which Nigeria’s security system depends.
“This cannot be dismissed as political theatre,” Buratai stated. “It is a reckless endangerment of national order and a clear indication of undermining the federal government’s authority.”
He therefore called on Wike to issue an immediate and public apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the officer involved in the incident.
“Our nation’s security must come first. It is time for decisive action, not politics of military bashing,” Buratai concluded. “The integrity of our Armed Forces demands nothing less.”
